School Highlights and Opportunities
School Leavers Transition Support
The EEB team has implemented a transition support resource to run ongoing as one of our many mechanisms to help bridge the gap between secondary school leavers and the working world.

Each term, a select number of ākonga will be able to have individualised support from our team to develop a career plan with personalised pastoral care and transition support from Vocational Coordinator to ākonga. This Initiative focuses on secondary ākonga aged Year 12 – 13 who show work-readiness and disengagement from school.

We focus on understanding their strengths while explaining the importance of "soft skills" in the workplace. We also offered our resources to help ākonga gain other knowledge on essential working elements.

If this sounds like some of your Ākonga, get in touch with the team, and we will be happy to fill you in on further details.

Pathways Presentation

The Pathways Presentation has been designed to deliver the basics of Vocational Education and is generally targeted at Years 9 and 10 ākonga. The object is to support ākonga in their understanding of where they see themselves within the working world by introducing key questions they should be considering at their Year level. We then introduce handy tools, like the Vocational Pathway wheel, to guide their explorations.

These are what we teach ākonga throughout our 1-hour presentation;

-         Real-life scenarios through experiences of the facilitators.
-         Successes and learnings of the presenters themselves.
-         The basics of the education system - The difference between University, Polytech, and Apprenticeship.
-         How to navigate the pressures of being asked, "what are you going to do when you leave school?"
-         Key questions to ask when thinking about pathway options in Years 9-10.
-         What is the subject selection, and why is it important?
-         Tools such as the Vocational Pathways to support Job exploration.
-         Who the Careers staff are within the school, and/or what Trade Academy is available to them.

If you're interested in our Pathways Presentation or want more information, click the button below and send through an email, and we can book you an appointment.
Employability Programme
Our employability programme is a series of workshops designed to respond to business and industry concerns that young people may not be developing the soft skills required to succeed in the workplace.

Our Employability Programme workshops focus on core employability skills. These workshops are packed with fun learning activities to build work readiness skills that business leaders have identified they want to see in young people.

We have developed eight x 1-hour workshops from which you can choose. Your school/kura can select 5 of the eight workshops, selecting the workshops which best align with your ākonga needs and stages of their transition journey. Each workshop is 1 hour or one class period in length.

The workshops are:

Ko wai ahau? – Ākonga will identify their values, interests, and skills.
Goalsetting - Ākonga will identify goals and potential challenges they may face and learn ways to overcome them.
Communication – Ākonga will learn about the importance of communicating at work and how to do it professionally
Positive attitude – Ākonga will understand what it means to have a positive attitude at work and learn about the STAR formula to overcome and resolve issues.
Willingness to learn – Ākonga will learn how having the Willingness to Learn improves their standing in the workplace and how to cultivate this skill.
Teamwork – Ākonga will learn the importance of being a team player and building trust with co-workers to succeed in the workplace.
CV and Cover letter skills – Ākonga will learn about CV and Cover letter writing.
Interview skills – Ākonga will learn and practice interview skills to aid them in their transition to employment.
